Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Interior Architecture
Teaching was far from my radar when I entered college after high school. My major was through the College of Architecture and Design in Interior Architecture at Kansas State University, My career after college consisted of working with architectural and engineering firms in commercial and residential design from Denver, New England to Telluride. Most recently, I established my own design firm and continued to practice in the field of design.
A few years ago, I happened to visit with the Principal at the Norwood School and learned that there was a need for substitute teachers. My interest was piqued. After a few months of substituting, a student required off-site tutoring and the school hired me to teach one-on-one with this student. Returning to the substitute pool, an opening for a Para-Professional position came up. I was continuing to enjoy the educational environment, so applied and was hired. At the beginning of the 2014 – 2015 school year, a vacancy opened up unexpectedly for the 1st grade class. The job was offered to me, through an Emergency Authorization, and so began my first teaching position!
Since that first day, I knew for sure that I wanted to continue in the elementary classroom. With the opportunity afforded me through the Alternative Teaching program, this will be possible. I am looking forward to completing my training and having a great second career!
I enjoy reading, skiing, taking long walks, sewing, drawing, gardening and traveling with my husband.
